Simon
Simon has gathered extensive occupational experiences across the community sector working in a range of roles. Simon’s employment roles have included After School Care assistant, Applied Behaviour Therapist, and Disability Support Worker. More recently Simon was employed as a Transition Case Manager working with young people under orders with the legal system and as a Coordinator of Youth Workers assisting disadvantaged and at-risk young people living on the Sunshine Coast. Simon enjoys working with young people and those experiencing disabilities to assist them in finding their voices and in achieving their potentials to live fulfilling lives.
Simon’s therapeutic style is founded on a strengths-based, person-centred approach in which he sees his role as one of walking alongside clients who he considers experts of their own lives. Through this collaborative approach, Simon strives to provide a non-judgmental empathetic environment in which clients can grow and flourish. To achieve these aims Simon will employ a range of therapeutic modalities as he customises therapy to best suit each client. Therapy styles Simon will employ include Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Positive Behaviour Support, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Schema Therapy, and Mindfulness. Simon will complete his training to become an NDIS registered Positive Behaviour Support Practitioner in early 2022.
Outside of work, Simon is a keen surfer who carried out his honours dissertation research on the effects of Surfing on Mindfulness, psychological well being and subjective well-being. Simon still has an interest in exploring how surfing could be incorporated with therapy. Simon is also an enthusiastic gardener and permaculture practitioner who when not in the ocean is often found in the garden tending to produce food crops and caring for the earth.
